Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble secosteroids responsible for increasing intestinal absorption of calcium, magnesium, and phosphate, and many other biological effects. In humans, the most important compounds in this group are vitamin D 3 (also known as cholecalciferol) and vitamin D 2 (ergocalciferol). A grouping of symptoms that increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke (metabolic syndrome). There is conflicting evidence about the link between vitamin D and metabolic syndrome.
